How To Make Homemade Household Cleaners, Just in time for Spring!

Hello Spring!!!

It’s a new year, in a new house, with a new baby and over here, we are decluttering, organizing and getting ready for spring by doing a little spring cleaning.  Today,  my inspiration comes from Tamera Mowry-Housley personal blog site, www.TameraMowry.com.

This spring for cleaning and disinfecting, I’ll be using my homemade cleaning products that I just love and I think you’ll love them too. I had used essential oils only to add pleasant aromas to my home but now I mixed and matched essential oils for each product. Essential oils not only fill my home with  a beautiful aroma but they also work as natural disinfectants.

There are many benefits to making your own household cleaners, not only do you have a piece of mind knowing EXACTLY what is in them, with less chemicals, kid friendly, and fresh ingredients… but, it is cost effective as well. I use to spend a lot of money on cleaners when I had the ingredients in my home already. Not only were they in my home, but they would be sitting on my shelf for months at a time before I’d realize they had reached the end of their shelf life.

Below you will find the ingredients for an All Purpose Cleaner, Disinfectant Cleaner, and a Glass and Window Cleaner.

All Purpose Cleaner Recipe

1 cups – White Vinegar

2 tsp – Baking Soda

1 cups – Water Warm Water

10 drops – Lavender Essential Oil

10 drops – Roseamary Essential Oil

First add baking soda to warm water in small bowl, then stir, it will fizz a bit.. this is normal. Pour/funnel in white vinegar into spray bottle. Next add water and baking soda mixture. Lastly, add essential oil drops to the spray bottle. Add the spray nozzle to the top and turn the bottle upside down several times to mix the ingredients. Clean and enjoy the aromas!

I added fresh lavender and rosemary leaves for added fragrance and to give a nice look to the bottle.

Disinfectant Spray

2 Cups – Water

1/2 tsp – The Laundress All Pursose Bleach Alternative (You can find this product at the Container Store, Amazon, and at TheLaundress.com) / or 1 cup of Hydrogen Peroxide

1/3 cup – Lemon Juice

1/4 tsp – Dawn Dishsoap (or any dish soap)

2 drops – Lemon Essential Oils

10 drops – Lavendar Essential Oils

Combine 2 cups of water, 1/2 tsp of The Laundress All Pursose Bleach Alternative or 1 cup of hydrogen peroxide as an alternative (be careful handling hydrogen peroxide with cloths, the hydrogen peroxide can leave a bleach/stain on clothing), 1/3 cup of lemon juice, dawn dish soap or dish soap of your choice (I like dawn because it the best dish soap that cuts through greases), 2 drops of lemon essential oil, and 10 drops lavender. If you use fresh squeezed lemon juice, you can add the lemon rind to the spray bottle for added aroma and visual appeal. To put my own twist, also added fresh French Lavendar leaves to the bottle. Gently mix by adding the spray nozzle to the top and turning the bottle upside down several times to mix the ingredients. Clean and enjoy the fresh calming smell!

Glass & Mirror

1 cup – Water

1/4 cup – Rubbing Alcohol

1/8 cup – White Vinegar

1 tbsp – Cornstarch

15 drops – Essential Oils of your Choice (I choose just Rosemary, I love the smell… it just smells clean)

Combine 1 cup of water, 1/4 cup of rubbing alcohol, 1/8 cup white vinegar, 1 tbsp cornstarch, and 15 drops combined of essential oil of your choice. Gently mix by adding the spray nozzle to the top and turning the bottle upside down several times to mix the ingredients. Clean and enjoy the aromas!

I love these cleaners and I know they work much better then the chemical formulas you buy in stores.  Plus, they are  more safe for my family.
